Short Notes on Installing latest version of AVG
Some of you will already be using the anti-virus solution AVG from Grisoft and may
have seen a pop-up window that says the current version (7.1) is being discontinued
effective 15 January, 2007. The notice appears like this:
It is easier not to follow the link from this pop-up window but instead to go
directly to the AVG download, which we gave on the previous page.
Here is the link from the previous page again:
Grisoft Free Advisor
Go down to the Orange button, about halfway down on the left, where it says
"Download free version", and click on it.
This will give you the page where you select which version you want to use. For Windows users, scroll down to the orange area in this page:
Click on the item shown in the illustration above. This will download the latest version as an executable (.exe). After downloading, run the program.
You will have the usual sorts of terms and conditions windows and so on. Just accept the defaults, provided you agree with them all, by selecting "Accept" or "Next" until you have a window like this:
Pick the top option, as shown.
Then do the normal install, followed by re-booting your computer, as it will ask you to do.
After your computer has re-started, then AVG will start warning you about your security status. This is because you have downloaded a standard installation executable. So AVG wants its database of viruses to be brought up to date as shown in this window:
Anything with a red icon against it needs to be updated.
So click on "Update" at the bottom of the window and this will bring everything up to date
Accept any recommendations that AVG gives you for updates.
When it has finished you will see that all the markers on the last window have turned to green to indicate that all is up to date. AVG will now update itself automatically each day.
Now you have the new AVG Version 7 installed.
